Experience
I earned my BA in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Early Elementary Education and my MA in Teaching from the Virginia Commonwealth University. I am certified to teach grades pre-k to sixth grade. I've worked with children for nearly twenty years. I worked in a private preschool for seven years, as a nanny while I finished my degrees, and now as a teacher and tutor. As a kindergarten teacher, I now find time prior to and after class to tutor students. I have tutored students ranging in grade from pre-k to fifth grade in all subjects . Some of the specific courses I tutor include elementary math, reading, writing, study skills and organization, phonics, math, and English. I find it to be very rewarding when I am able to help a student gain a true understanding of a subject, and the confidence to move on to more complex work. Watching a child transform from a confused, and often frightened student, to one who realizes their inherent potential for academic success is what fuels my love for teaching. When I'm not working with children I enjoy fishing with my dad, shopping, reading, exploring new restaurants, going to movies, traveling, going for walks, and spending time with my family and friends.
